Frederick Law Olmstead is best known for his work in New York City’s Central Park, but his design for Buffalo’s Park System was on of his proudest achievements.

Buffalo’s Olmstead-designed parks are listed on the National Register of Historic Places.

Olmstead was born in Hartford, Connecticut. He teamed with architect Calvert Vaux to design landscapes and structures for parks in many major U.S. cities. He designed the first urban parks, greenways, and planned communities in the country. Olmstead was know as the father of landscape architecture; he name the profession and designed the practice.
