CULTURE & HERITAGE
Suggested Site Visits Along The Trail
A young America was shaped by the people who traveled the big waters
of the Great Lakes Seaway Trail: Lake Erie, the Niagara River, Lake
Ontario and the St. Lawrence River. The multicultural influences of
Native Americans, French explorers, British soldiers, Dutch settlers,
Underground Railroad travelers and conductors and America’s pioneers
remain today in the architecture, arts, festivals, and foods found by
traveling the 518-mile Great Lakes Seaway Trail, once a footpath and
wagon trail. Green-and-white Trailblazer logo signs lead you along the
byway to 50 information kiosks and to a series of nearly 100
interpretive signs that share the legends, lore, facts and fascinating
figures of our diverse cultural heritage.
